Shimerman helped invent the Ferengi race on Star Trek: The Next Generation, but he perfected the greedy, entrepreneurial aliens on DS9 with his portrayal of the eponymous space station's resident bar owner. As Quark, Shimerman was a series regular on Deep Space Nine, and the Ferengi was a reliable source of comic relief who also displayed a great deal of character depth and a genuine love of his offbeat Ferengi family and Starfleet friends.
